Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) 101
I offer a legal therapeutic modality called Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in partnership with a licensed prescriber in the state of California.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible patients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms.
I take on the psychotherapy portion of the experience, while the prescriber I work with will work with you on all medical aspects, including determining eligibility, developing a custom treatment plan, prescribing the medicine and monitoring outcomes.
What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?
KAP is a legal modality that pairs ketamine treatment with dedicated psychotherapy sessions for more deeper therapy, more frequent breakthroughs and better clinical outcomes.
What is Ketamine?
Ketamine is a legal, safe and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and PTSD. Ketamine has rapidly-acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hrs. after treatment and last for up to 2 weeks. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors as well as by stimulating AMPA receptors, which are thought to help form new synaptic connections and boost neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement.
Ketamine can be administered in several ways, including IV infusion, intramuscular injection, nasal spray, and sublingual lozenges. Many clients choose lozenges because they can be prescribed for at-home use and shipped anywhere in the state. If you are located near Westlake Village or San Diego, you may also inquire about in-person intramuscular ketamine sessions.
How It Helps:
KAP can support clients who feel stuck, disconnected, or weighed down by long-standing struggles. Many people report:
-
Relief from depression and anxiety
-
Softer inner defenses and self-criticism
-
A deeper sense of meaning and connection
-
New insights into patterns and relationships
KAP can be especially helpful for:
-
Treatment-resistant depression and anxiety
-
Trauma and PTSD
-
Emotional blocks or burnout
-
Clients seeking deeper personal growth or healing
My Approach
I provide a grounded, supportive presence while integrating depth psychology, mindfulness, and EMDR principles. Together, we create a safe container for healing and self-discovery, whether your focus is symptom relief or soul-level transformation.
How Does Ketamine Feel?
The effects of ketamine, which most patients find pleasant, last for approximately 90 minutes. These effects can make you feel “far from” your body, and facilitate shifts in perception that can often feel expansive in nature. Your motor and verbal abilities will be reduced, so you’ll be lying down in a comfortable position during the experience.
We will schedule a session within 24 hours after your Ketamine session to discuss your experience. While it may feel hard to articulate what happened during the experience, patients feel like the insights gained are none-the-less clear.
What is the Cost of Treatment?
-
My standard therapy rate is $180 per hour.
-
The medical intake and prescription are handled separately by my prescribing partner.
-
Please reach out to discuss which treatment path and payment options may work best for you.
